Minardi Team

The Minardi Team has been holding the Italian banner high in internatio- nal car races for a quarter of a century.

Founded at Faenza in 1979 by Gian Carlo Minardi, the team made its Formula One debut in 1985.

The first point arrived three years later. 1991 was a great year: the single-sea- ters were equipped with Ferrari engines and the Team won six rainbow points, ranking it seventh in the manufacturers’ classification.

Since 1994 its seasons in Formula One have met with alternating fortune. In 1995 it was taken over by Gabriele Rumi and Flavio Briatore, with Cesare Fiorio as Team Manager from 1999, the year in which the team placed tenth in the manufacturers’ classification.

In 2001 Paul Stoddart assumed control of the company, deciding on a merger with the British European Formula Racing, of which he is the owner.

The team placed eleventh in the manufac- turers’ world championship in 2001, ninth in 2002 and tenth in 2003.

Since being taken over by Dietrich Mateschitz of Redbull GMBH on Nvember 1, 2005, the team has changed its name to Scuderie Toro Rosso Spa.
