Nuvolari in Parma
Tazio Nuvolari, the "Champion among Champions", made his debut
on the streets of Parma in the faraway 1921 by participating in the
1st Circuit of Parma in the saddle of a motorcycle Garelli 350 cc.
The "flying Mantuan" made his last appearance on our streets in the
July 13th 1947, driving a Ferrari. In both competitions is ranked
first.
In the race of 1921, in the path Parma-Vicofertile Collecchio-Parma
(12 laps for a total 242 km) there was a large participation of
public well-housed in tribunes at the departure and arrival, and a
considerable number of competitors assisted in the boxes by the
motorcycling houses. Among the motorcycles, well highlighted Norton
single cylinder, the Frera, the Guzzi, the AJS, the Garelli, the
Harley Davidson, the Maffeis, the very fast Bianchi and the
Indian.
Among the pilots the first one was Tazio Nuvolari, followed by
Achille Varzi, then Gaetano Tanzi on Norton, the parmesan Agide
Fiaccadori on Garelli, the other parmesan Slawitz Rienzo on
Motosacoche (who will be first in the Parma-Poggio 1923 in the 750
category), then Pierino Maggi and Giuseppe Artusi both on Guzzi
500, Mario Vega on Maffeis, Olindo Raggi on the AJS 350, Amedeo
Ruggeri on Indian 1000th
Here a brief history of the "appearances" by Tazio Nuvolari on the
roads of Parma:
- 1921 - may the 20th - first circuit of Parma -
km 242 - 1° in the 350 category (on Garelli) - 2 hours 38 minutes
and 29 seconds - km/h 91,724
- 1923 - may the 6th - Parma-Poggio di Berceto -
3° in the 350 category (on Garelli) - 45 minutes and 41 seconds. 2°
in the km starting from firm in 49 minutes. 6° on the path
Parma-Fornovo, 20 km in 16 minutes and 3 seconds. Registered also
in the car competition (on Diatto n. 16) but not present at the
start. august the 26th Emiliano circuit - km 637 - 1° on Indian
1000 in 12 hours 44 minutes 24 seconds. Timed section Vergato-Rocca
Toffeno (km 19) in 20 minutes 9 seconds.
- 1924 - from april the 30th to may the 4th -
Italian Motorcycling tour - in Parma km 263 - 1° in 3hours 26
minutes. may the 11th - Parma-Poggio di Berceto - registered on
Chiribiri 1500. Despite being one of the favorites he didn't leave
for a fault at the gear even if he also received a letter from his
motoring house, the Bianchi, whitch imposed him to not compete
("Gazzetta dello sport). September the 28th - 2° in the circuit of
Parma. 2° (on a Norton n.37) in 2 hours 58 minutes and 23 seconds,
with the fastest round, the 10th, in 19 minutes and 18 seconds
(km/h 123, 330).
- 1947 - july the 13th - circuit of Parma - 1° on
Ferrari in 57 minutes and 36 seconds km 93,733 on average.
